Brooklyn Fashion Week Introduces the Brooklyn Fashion Film Festival as a "virtual" space to share a worldwide marketing effort by Independent Fashion Designers, Stylist and beauty professionals!
This year they sent out the challenge to fashion design professionals and others in our creative community… 'Tell us your story!' They invited them to create a 3-15 minute video or “Fashion Film”! The goal is to get them to explore modern technology! To Show, Sell, Share or Teach!

Couture Fashion Week New York: 15th Season Wraps with a Flourish of Style & Luxury

It is exciting to see many fashion designers returning each season to show their powerful collections in New York during Couture Fashion Week at the Waldorf-Astoria. Among the award-winning designers returning this season were Walid Atallah (Dubai), Amal Sarieddine and MireilleDagher (Lebanon), NedretTaciroglu (Turkey), SushmaPatel (USA/India), Marco Marcu (Germany), Luis Machicao (USA/Peru) and Romanitza (Romania) who chose CFW as one of the events to celebrate her 20th year in the fashion industry. Designers showing for the first time at CFW included Pilar Macchione, Evgenia Luzhina-Salazar, Romero Bryan, Tammy Duffy, Eredappa, Giovanni Lopresti and Alicat by Avril Lemieux.




Couture Fashion Week’s Official Hair Stylist this season was the Elie Esper Salon, and the Official Makeup Artists were Mykel Renner and AOFM Pro with cosmetics by Inglot. Afterparties and VIP dinners were held at Nino’s Tuscany Steakhouse and Scarpina Bar & Grill. Flawless luxury car transportation was provided by Quintessentially Driven. Along with the fabulous fashions and accessories shown on the runway, audiences enjoyed performances by such notable entertainers as singersChristine Reber, Veronica Iovan, Dalal, Michael Raven, Sarah Elizabeth 
Charles, Luciano Lamonarca, Gerardo Contino and Cristina Fontanelli (fresh from her appearance with Andrea Bocelli in Central Park). Also appearing wereJane Hunt (“The Violin Venus”), pianist Laura Korpa, The Broadway Dolls, cellists The Monticelli Trio, dancers Kiana & Melia and the Nika Ballet Company.

A dazzling display area included a $500,000 limited edition sports car by Alessi Fiberglass and paintings by world-renowned surrealist painter Michael Cheval.Among other exhibitors were Xais Handbags, Hillcock Enterprises, Ashmina Designer Knitwear, Laser Cosmetica, American Laser, and NTDTV.



The event was covered by a large number of press outlets from around the world, with video, print and internet coverage continuing to appear.





The next Couture Fashion Week New York will be held February 17-19, 2012. It is already shaping up to be a memorable event.

Fashion Events Insider: Red Runway 2011



Models, check; designers, check; red runway, check check! They were all in place at the third annual Red Runway fashion event which took place on Saturday night. The event which is known as a fashion party was executive produced by Keron  Ward and Dale Hosten of Executive Events. Red Runway Creative Director Christopher Nathan hosted the event while coordinating models on and off the popular red runway. Seats were filled despite the rain as popular designers including Shaun Griffith-Perez and Stacy Smith showcased their latest collections. Here are a few pics from the event. Enjoy!

Fashion Events Insider: Anya Ayoung-Chee Hosts Project Runway Viewing Party

Last evening, Anya Ayoung-Chee indulged an intimate, group of friends, family and supporters with good drinks and good company at her Project Runway Viewing Party. The event which was held at the Carlton Savannah Hotel in Port-of-Spain Trinidad was well attended and included popular, local socialites Bunji Garlin and his wife Fay ann Lyons-Alvares, Caribbean's Next Top Model coordinator Ian Royer, Above Group Ogilvy CEO Alex Smeils, and many others. CNC3 news was also there to host inerviews during commercial breaks.

The evening's events began at 6:00 pm on the rooftop where everyone gathered for photos, chitchat and beverages compliments of one of the evening's sponsors, Nuvo. FLOW Trinidad, another sponsor, set up a large projected screen in the Jetsam room of the hotel where everyone later congregated to watch the show.

Cheers, jeers and laughter coud be heard during the show as Anya's biggest supporters shared her special PR moments. During the first commercial break Anya addressed her guests, welcoming them and thanking them for their support. She also took that time to share her feelings about her experiences on Project Runway and compared it with her time at the Miss Universe pageant. She announced that her fan favourite winnings, a total of US $10,000.00 would be used to develop a micro-financing fund to help creative young people achieve their dreams. This of course, she would do if she does win. Her chances of winning depend on the number of votes she has at the end of the season.

ANYA AYOUNG-CHEE GETS DONNA KARAN TO TAKE SPECIAL INTEREST IN TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO FASHION?

Unless you live under a rock, you should have noticed that almost everyone from the Caribbean is well attuned to and buzzing about Trinidadian designer Anya Ayoung-Chee's inclusion to the cast of the 2011 installment of Lifetime Network's Project Runway. The beauty queen/graphic artist/stylist/designer power combo that is Anya Ayoung-Chee  attended the Women Inspiration Enterprise (WIE) Symposium in New York City on Monday, from where she tweeted her excitement about the fashion icons she was surrounded by at the auspicous event; One of whom was the legendary American fashion designer Donna Karan. More and more, through designer showcases, musical artistes, modeling and other talents the world is becoming aware of  the extraordinary talents and capabilities that abound in Trinidad and Tobago. This year alone, the world got a taste of what the island has to offer as celebrated musical artist Nicki Minaj shot to record breaking fame, Kes The Band was invited to deliver a wonderful performance on ABC television network, Trinidadian model Crystal Noreiga hit the catwalk at NYFW and received a coveted Marc Jacobs deal, and Anya Ayoung-Chee's constant praise and display of superb design talent gained her popularity on Project Runway. These are just a few among the pool of internationally recognized successes to come out of Trinidad and Tobago in fashion and entertainment. It seems like Trinidad and Tobago fashion is heading in a truly positive direction. Let's continue to support the growth and expansion of Caribbean fashion and Caribbean culture on the whole.

Trinidad & Tobago Model Rips the Runway at NYFW and Lands Marc Jacobs Contract!

Coco Velvet model Crystal Noreiga made her international debut at New York Fashion Week in Manhattan from September 09-15, 2011. The 5ft 11 T&T model was booked for four major catwalk collections during fashion week’s Spring 2012 Ready-to-Wear Collections including A-list designer Marc Jacobs collection, Tracy Reese and St. John’s fashion shows; she was the only black model to walk for the Theyskens’ Theory RTW Collection on September 13th.
                           CRYSTAL NOREIGA

Crystal won the Top Model Trinidad & Tobago 2010 contest at the Hyatt Regency Trinidad and earned the right to represent T&T at the Elite Model Look World Finals in Shanghai, China in October 2010. She was awarded a modeling contract with Elite Latin & South America and subsequently signed by DNA Model Management in New York where she is now based.

Christopher Nathan, founder of Coco Velvet International Fashion Management believes that Crystal’s international success will help to distinguish Port-of-Spain as an international fashion centre. The fashion world is eyeballing Trinidad & Tobago at this time due to Anya Ayoung-Chee’s success on Project Runway; Port-of-Spain is playing host to the Caribbean Next Top Model and the Elite Model Look Caribbean contest on November 12th. Nicky Minaj is also flying T&T’s fashion flag high. He believes that this is an opportune time for the government to position Port-of-Spain as the fashion capital of the Caribbean.

Coco Velvet has developed other internationally successful models including New York and Paris based model/actor Paul-Robert Pryce, winner of the Oprah Winfrey’s Sexy Island Man contest in 1998, Dominique Armorer, T&T Top Model 1999 who has done many high profile campaigns during the eight years she was represented by Elite Model Management New York, Marsha Alexander created history by walking for A-list designer Oscar de la Renta at his 2000 Ready-to-Wear collection in Miami’s South Beach; while just 15 years old she represented T&T at the Elite Model Look International finals in Geneva, Switzerland in 2000. IMG New York model Michelene Auguste, now based in London received her initial training from Coco Velvet’s Training Academy in 2005 and 2008. Miss Universe 1998, Wendy Fitzwilliam was the principal model at Coco Velvet International in the early years; the agency was launched in October 1997 at 54 Gallus Street, Woodbrook.
